Welcome! I am a Buddhist dharma practitioner in the generally “secret” Tibetan/Tantric tradition and value my ethical teachers, meditation practice and dharma friends. I’m not an exceedingly talented wordsmith, but I studied writing and poetics at the Naropa University with some of the beat poets like Allen Ginsberg and Anne Waldman. My style comes from the Jack Kerouac style of spontaneous poem and prose, with little or no editing, it may not constitute art, but assuredly, has heart. http://www.writing.upenn.edu/~afilreis/88/kerouac-spontaneous.html
Over the past couple years I’ve been one of the voices to speak out for the #metoo movement, which includes unfortunately some of our spiritual teachers and community members taking liberties with the students both financially and sexually as well as other exploitation that’s been hidden for centuries. Many of us have been forced to go deeper and ask ourselves where our true spirituality lies. Much of my poetry and discussions delve deep into these very difficult issues, ones that very few of us feel comfortable looking at, but as one of my teachers said “the way to find the light within you is to face the darkness.” We can be honest about our raw humanness, our heartbreak, our longing and indeed our hope. Some of the references here are to terms inherent to Tibetan Buddhism, and Buddhism, but I hope the spirit comes through. Your input is warmly welcome, and please visit often!
(*Trigger Warning- I often write about women’s issues, sexual assault, clergy and child abuse)
